The debut of Rey Mysterio in New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) is very close. The Japanese company confirmed this morning at an extraordinary press conference that Rey Mysterio Jr will debut on June 9 at the NJPW Dominion event. Rey Mysterio will have an individual fight in one of the great events of the year in Japan.
During The New Beginning tour, in February, Rey Mysterio announced that he would fight for NJPW. At first, King was going to face the Japanese legend Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger in the Strong Style Evolved event, scheduled for March. Weeks before the match, Mysterio suffered an injury during a fight for the company Northeast Wrestling (NEW) and had to be removed from the undercard.
The relationship between the company and the fighter continued on the right track and both parties reached a new agreement. In Dominion, Rey will be in an NJPW ring for the first time in his career. His possible rival will be Jushin Liger. Beyond the fact that this was the battle originally planned for him, Rey Mysterio himself has repeatedly signaled his interest in returning to fight with Liger, with whom he already shared quadrilaterals in the extinct World Championship Wrestling (WCW).
Rey Mysterio Jr is one of the most important cruiserweight fighters of the last 20 years. Mysterio has achieved great success in all types of companies, of which WCW, WWE or AAA stand out in Mexico. Since leaving the company of the McMahon family in 2014, Mysterio has worked as a free agent. This year, without going any further, he has invested in the Aro Lucha project and has had some participation in the WWE itself.
