ESPN Interview with 5 New Fighters of RAW and Smackdown

This week’s ESPN interviewed five new fighters on the main roster of RAW and Smackdown. Below are the highlights…

Ruby Riott on how he believed that a girl like her could never work in WWE before signing with the company: “For a long time before I was hired, I did not feel like a girl like me was able to work for WWE because I see myself very different, “said Riott. “Then I got to the Performance Center and there I still had that feeling. [But then] I debuted for NXT about two months after I got there, and since then, I’ve been involved in combat with some of the most incredible women who have stepped on a ring.”

Liv Morgan on how everyone was patient with her after her arrival at the Performance Center: When I arrived at the Performance Center, I was 20 years old. Then I was like the baby in the building. It was definitely not as mature as it should have been. I definitely was not as responsible as I should have been. But they were very patient with me.”

Morgan on how they notified him that he would go to the SmackDown roster: “Morgan on how they notified him that he would go to the SmackDown roster: “I received an email that said they were going to take me on a plane to do a dark match: a non-televised match on SmackDown. So I thought: ‘It’s good, great.’ I was very excited for the opportunity to fight in front of a larger audience. So I packed my bags under the assumption that I was going to have a dark match.”

Mandy Rose about training in the Performance Center: “From Tough Enough, and getting into Total Divas immediately, it was as if I had never stopped. I was like, ‘Fine, now I need to get to the Performance Center.’ I needed to train and learn to fight. Once I started training at the Performance Center, I got into the rhythm of the program and really got used to that, I really loved it because I’m good with the routine.”

Rose on how WWE told her she was going to travel to Raw to join the main roster: “Actually I was not in Houston for NXT, I was at home in Orlando. I was ready to go home a little earlier for Thanksgiving, since we did not have any shows in Florida. But I received the email that indicated that I would go to Raw and SmackDown, which was really exciting news, but I had to change all the travel material. Would they call me to see my face, or maybe … I really did not know what to think? I thought of all the different scenarios.”

Sonya Deville on how she found out about the plans for her: “As the days passed, you hear rumors and hear things around. You will not want to believe anything until it is immovable, because it is the entertainment industry at the end of the day and things change. Come on Monday, around 3:00, 3:30, I discovered what was happening. I think I still do not believe it. I do not know if I’m really ready yet.”

Deville shared his trip with Mandy Rose: “I think one of the best parts of this entire trip is that Mandy and I were able to share it together. We started together about two and a half years ago in Tough Enough, in the reality show where a few thousand people tried and me and Mandy were just two of those thousands who asked for the opportunity to change our lives, without thinking that it would, we go to this … We have joined together in NXT, we fight among us in NXT; It’s been this crazy roller coaster that I had to take with my best friend. It’s the best possible scenario I could ask for.”

Logan about his time at the Mae Young Classic: “Four days after graduating from high school, I took a plane for the first time and flew to Japan. Mia Yim was there with me, and we took care of each other, “Logan said. “My first round was with her, and fighting against her in the Mae Young Classic, on that big stage, was too good to be true. So the fight we had was incredible.”
