WWE has decided to change the name of another superstar and this has been visible in his WWE profile. In this case, the affected has been Apollo Crews who has lost his last name. From now on, the member of Titus Worldwide will be simply called ” Apollo “.

This is not the only case in which WWE has decided to shorten the name of one of its fighters. In recent years, superstars such as (Adrian) Neville, (Alexander) Rusev, (Antonio) Cesaro, Elias (Samson), Big E (Langston), TJP (TJ Perkins) or, more recently, (Luke) Harper and (Erick) ) Rowan changed their names at the request of the company. Apparently, the idea of shortening these names is commercial and it is at the request of Vince McMahon who believes that a shorter name creates more impact.

In April of 2016, Apollo made its debut on the WWE main roster after going through NXT. In his first combat in Raw, he managed to defeat Tyler Breeze. In the 2016 Draft, he was chosen by SmackDown. where he challenged The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship in the SummerSlam edition 2016 although he was defeated. After a rivalry with Dolph Ziggler Superstar Shake-up sent Apollo to Raw and quickly joined Titus O’Neil to form the Titus Worldwide. In January 2018 the team tried to win the Raw tag team championships in the possession of Sheamus and Cesaro but failed to take the victory.

Reason for Apollo’s name change

it is rumored that the name change for Apollo Crews is due to the tragic shooting in high school last Wednesday in Parkland, Florida. Nikolas Cruz, 19, killed 17 students and teachers with an AR-15 rifle. Apparently, WWE wanted to avoid any allusion to Cruz even though the name is different, and Vince McMahon made the decision to discard the Apollo surname.
