Kota Ibushi becomes the new NEVER Openweight champion
Kota Ibushi beat Hirooki Goto in the final event of the NJPW World Tag League, held today in Iwate, to become the new NEVER Openweight champion. Ibushi achieved the victory by the count of three after applying the Kamigoye in a match that lasted approximately 16 minutes.
Ibushi ends well with the fourth reign of Hirooki Goto, who won the title beating Taichi in Power Struggle, the event held on November 3, 2018, recovering for the fourth time in a row. For Kota Ibushi this is the first ostentation, although it is not the first individual championship he gets in NJPW.
After his victory, Ibushi was visited by Will Ospreay, who had won the opportunity to fight for the NEVER Openweight Championship in the future. Ospreay defeated Taichi in an individual combat and used that clause to challenge Ibushi to a match at Wrestle Kingdom 13, the big New Japan Pro Wrestling event that will take place on January 4. Ospreay declared having the dream of facing Ibushi in the biggest of scenarios and challenged him for that date. The new champion accepted and both shook hands in respect.
