AEW Dynamite Review: November 6, 2019

Pac vs. Trent (w/ Chuck Taylor and Orange Cassidy)

Before the actual show kicked off, the commentators checked in and went through the match card for this episode. After that, Pac made his entrance followed by Trent who was accompanied by Chuck Taylor and Orange Cassidy.

Even though Cassidy got involved in this match, in the end, Pac was able to get away with the win via submission as he applied the Brutalizer. Before that, Trent was even able to kick out of the Black Arrow what was very surprising. After the match, Pac held a short heel promo as the segment closed.

Opinion: A solid match to open the show. Both men performed well and a good ending to once more bring over the Brutalizer. The short promo after the match was good, but nothing outstanding.

Cody’s announcement

Tony Schiavone interviewed Cody in the ring. He asked him about the AEW Championship match at Full Gear. Cody noted that they expected a group as the Inner Circle to step up to the Elite. He added that he heard the criticism about him being both superstar and management. The American Nightmare announced then that if he isn’t able to defeat Chris Jericho at Full Gear, he will never challenge for the AEW Championship again.

He came back on last weeks point of Jericho that Cody would be an entitled millennial bitch and noted that Y2J was the son of a wealthy hockey player. The American Nightmare added that they would share the same silver spoon, and then he called Jericho a carnie succubus. He added that he surrounds himself with youth who he needs more than the other way around. He finished this promo as he said that it’s not about his father, but about his sister, wife and his entire family. In the end, he added that he’ll bring the best of his generation to Full Gear and eat Jericho alive.

Opinion: A really strong promo from Cody and he put a lot of emotions in it. In general, the set-up over the last weeks for this match at Full Gear was absolutely outstanding. However, since later that night Jericho would team up with Sammy Guevara to take on Kenny Omega and Adam Page, it was clear that there will surely happen something additionally in this episode.

Private Party vs. The Dark Order to declare who would be the third team in the AEW Tag Team Championships match at Full Gear

The winner of this match would be the third team besides the champs SCU and the Lucha Bros in the match at Full Gear for the AEW Tag Team Championships. The match was good and most of the time the Dark Order was able to dominate, but at the end of the match, the Private Party hit Grayson with the Gin and Juice to get the win. After the match, the Lucha Brothers, as well as SCU, entered the ring for a face-off.

After the match, we saw a little video package about Jericho which was quite funny. All members of the Inner circle and his “aunt” talked about Jericho. The woman who acted as his aunt said that she would know that Jericho will beat the shit outa Cody at Full Gear. The audience had to laugh several times during this video package.

Opinion: The match was nothing outstanding and the Dark Order just don’t seem dangerous in the ring. So, a right choice to give the Private Party the third place in the AEW Tag Team Tournament, but more important to put them in the title match at Full Gear. On the other side, the video package about Y2J was absolutely awesome.

Riho & Shanna vs. Emi Sakura & Jamie Hayter

The match took over 13 minutes what means that all four women had enough time to show off their in-ring abilities. In the end, Emi Sakura pinned Riho for the win. Since Full Gear will take place this Saturday it was way too late to build up this fight.

After the match, we saw another promo of Brandi Rhodes. She was drinking wine on a black and red set. She said that she wouldn’t get enough recognition due to her relationship with Cody. She closed the video package with by asking who the bullies would be now?

Opinion: The women’s division of AEW is at the moment chaotic and way worse than compared to the women’s division of NXT. I already said that last week, but this week proved that once more when you look at the two episodes and compare what they did with the women. I have no idea what their plan for their women at Full Gear is and what’s exactly the plan for Brandi?

Shawn Spears (w/ Tully Blanchard) vs. Brandon Cutler

The match just took a bit more than three minutes and then Spears hit his opponent with the Dead Valley Driver for the victory. After the fight, Blanchar threw a chair into the ring and Spears wanted to hit Cutler once more with his finisher, but this time on the chair. However, suddenly Joey Janela came out to send Spears and Blanchard fleeing. After the match, we saw a little video package which should hype us for the match at Full Gear between Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega.

Opinion: Spears and Cutler are both great performers who haven’t received that much TV time within the last time, so it was good to see both men back in the ring. I’m not sure if this is the beginning of a feud between Spears and Janela, but I think this could be good since both men currently have no rival. The video package for the fight between Moxley and Omega was good, even though I think a promo between these two would have been better.

“Hangman” Adam Page and Kenny Omega vs. Sammy Guevara and Chris Jericho

The match took about 14 minutes and all four superstars showed their in-ring abilities. Jericho doesn’t look that fit anymore de to his age, but he’s still a hell of an athlete. Since all four members of this match except Guevara have a match at Full Gear, you expected that anybody of their rivals would come into play at the end of the match and that’s exactly what happened.

During the final phase, Pac appeared and gave Page a low blow on the apron. This allowed Jericho to hit the Hangman with the Judas Effect for the win. After that, complete chaos broke out as the Inner Circle hammered away at Page until Cody came and attacked Guevara. Jericho and Jake Hager tried to escape, but MJF attacked them from behind with a chair on the ramp. MJF sent Jericho back into the ring where Cody hit him with the CrossRhodes. Then Moxley appeared and had a stand off with Omega in the ring. Both men held their typical weapons in the hand which were barbed wired.

Jericho and Cody brawled on the ramp and then Santana and Ortiz entered the ring to assault Moxley and Omega. However, the Young Bucks also came out to make the save. It was a complete chaos and, in the end, Moxley and Omega went backstage to continue the brawl. Then, we also saw Matt Jackson diving from the top of the entrance are down on the Inner Circle. The show closed with chaos continuing in the arena.

Opinion: I don’t know what to think about that. At the end of the first two episodes of AEW Dynamite, we also had a similar chaos and this time there were even more superstars involved. I understand the idea, but I think there were just way too much superstars involved. The match and the idea for the segment were good, and I’m sure the majority of people loved it, but in my eyes, it was too chaotic

Summary

A solid episode of AEW Dynamite which hyped us for this weeks PPV Full Gear. The card for this PPV is outstanding and we had for almost every match a great build-up. The weakest spot of this episode was clearly the women’s match since the women’s division is a mess at the moment. Besides, I’m looking forward to Full Gear. Especially the Lights Out match between Moxley and Omega will be a must-see fight and the big question is how brutal it will be. The stipulation that if Cody isn’t able to defeat Chris Jericho at Full Gear, he will never challenge for the AEW Championship again makes this championship fight even more exciting. Check in on Saturday to read our preview for this PPV.
