WrestleMania 35 Preview and Predictions
WrestleMania 35 will be held on April 7 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, and our team has everything ready to cover everything that happens from Friday to Tuesday, with live reports from NXT TakeOver, Hall of Fame, WrestleMania, Monday Night Raw, and SmackDown Live. A weekend that is always special due to the interest generated by the great event of WWE, although precisely that is not the right word in this edition.
In effect, the interest. The truth is that the interest is generated as a result of previous events, which draw your attention, but this year there is virtually no bout of the billboard that gave me that feeling. WWE plays with fire in recent times, giving ‘priority’ to the matches rather than the stories, which is fine, but the storyline is a basic element of a good product, especially if you are WWE. That’s why I think this has been one of the worst Road to WrestleMania in history, although I also trust that we will enjoy the show as in recent years, or even more.
Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal
This match is still missing a prize for the winner. The fact that the last man on foot gets a trophy implies that his only goal is to be on the card so fans can see as many superstars as possible, nothing more. Anyway, if we focus on the match, we have, at the time of writing, a total of 29 confirmed. That last post is scary, and I hope that WWE does not place a superstar like Bray Wyatt or Luke Harper. Of those announced officially, I prefer a victory of Braun Strowman. It’s true, the bets are given to Andrade, and even to others like Ali or Curt Hawkins -I promise, I’ve read it- but I think that Strowman, despite being focused on his rivalry with Colin Jost and Michael Che, has all the winning options. As a minimum,
Winner: Braun Strowman
WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal
We are all thinking about the same, or almost all; in Asuka. The former women’s champion of SmackDown has been ignored by WWE, supposedly because she did not have a ‘worthy’ opponent for WrestleMania. The defeat against Charlotte has brought her here. We all think about: “Asuka, at the Real Battle of WrestleMania … No, no no”. But yes, friends, here we have it. Obviously, she presents herself as the superstar to beat. In the last episode of SmackDown Live, he sent a wink, standing alone, in the ring, during the mixed battle for teams, throwing even Jeff Hardy ultimately. We could see the same result in WrestleMania, but it is very obvious, so, considering that Naomi won last year, I was awarded by a superstar that has not yet been announced. Well, better not. I prefer Japanese.
Winner: Asuka
SmackDown Tag Team Championship
The last bout announced for the card has left me with that bittersweet taste. Actually, it happened to me when it was announced that the Hardy brothers would be part of the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. I expected The Usos to defend the titles against The Hardy Boyz, it would have been much more epic and could have been built with a little sense. In fact, Matt and Jeff Hardy started doing it on their own by posting a video on social networks where they referred to the family ties of the two teams. Finally, WWE has put into the match -with all the respect in the world- everything that has been left over. Proof of this is having placed Ricochet and Aleister Black inside. And it’s not because I dislike them, but because this week they were fighting for the Raw championships against The Revival. What’s the point? Anyway, I think that counting on the presence of these superstars, the match cannot go wrong. Everything depends on the time that Vince gives them to show off.
Winner: The Usos
WWE Intercontinental Championship
The nonsense continues, and I am realizing, at times, of the serious problem that WWE has in the creative team. We go back to January, at Royal Rumble; Finn Bálor had a chance for the WWE Universal Championship against Brock Lesnar. I had everything against; a bigger rival, stronger and with a difficult streak to overcome. Did you use your best weapon to fight it? No. Indeed, Finn Bálor did not use the alter ego against the toughest opponent. So, why now? What is the reason? Why is WrestleMania? Bobby Lashley has beaten him in recent weeks, albeit indirectly. Using “The Demon” is fine, but this time it does not make any sense to bring it up. The match may be fine, but I really do not expect much. Both have shown to have no special chemistry,
Winner: Finn Bálor
WWE Cruiserweight Championship
Buddy Murphy has shown, in my opinion, to be the best champion who has had 205 Live in all his short history. He has surpassed all his rivals giving a great image experimenting with different styles. On this occasion, he will have to deal with someone similar to him, with similar physical components and a refined technique. Tony Nese could be the man to take the title after almost half a year of reign and would be a worthy champion. It is true, WrestleMania is, especially in recent editions, the day of the changes, but I think Buddy Murphy is going to retain because he still has a lot to give us. By the way … again in the Kickoff Show, and there are four consecutive (not to mention Fastlane).
Winner: Buddy Murphy
Retirement match
The question is easy: Will Baron Corbin be the last rival of Kurt Angle? During the last weeks, many speculations have been launched on this matter, which is why other names have been shuffled to star in the last match of the Olympic champion. John Cena has always been there; Kurt Angle was his first opponent in WWE and now he could return the favor. Removing from the equation the rivals that have been discarded during the last weeks (AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Rey Mysterio …) I only have John Cena, because The Undertaker does not see it. Leaving aside the hypothesis, a battle between Baron Corbin and Kurt Angle can be quite entertaining. Make no mistake, The Lone Wolf offers a good show when he wants, but his problem is not that, but the situation.
Winner: Baron Corbin
United States Championship Match
During the last hours it has been announced that Rey Mysterio is injured, so this match is in check. Anyway, I will try to avoid that situation and focus on what this combat would be like. A priori, the match did not have a deep history, since Joe always does the same, since he came to WWE. However, the entry of Dominick – the son of Rey Mysterio – to this story has made me think that WWE could use it to make some ‘unexpected’ turn, such as the betrayal of a son to his father. You’ll think I’m crazy, but I think it’s something that could happen, and more being WrestleMania and with a Mysterio that works very well when the story becomes emotional. But come on, maybe none of that will happen. Anyway, I think Samoa Joe needs a more extensive reign to do something else in WWE.
Winner: Samoa Joe
AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton
Randy Orton’s life insurance in this type of combats, which are part of a card of an important event but do not have a title at stake. The first example that comes to my mind is WrestleMania 31, where Orton ironed Seth Rollins after applying an amazing RKO. I think both are obliged to offer us one of the bouts of the night; They have the quality to do it and I suppose they will have time for it. Although it has not been reflected on television, it is a match that has been brewing since last year because both wanted it; now they will have the opportunity to demonstrate the reason for that desire. Either can win and that’s good because it makes it more unpredictable.
Winner: AJ Styles
WWE Women’s Championship
The combat is presented with an interesting combination of styles. On the one hand, we have The Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection; the champions and the women who must decide if this goes for long with them. Bayley and Sasha Banks are, apparently, the favorites because of their level and their future possibilities with the titles. Nia Jax and Tamina are presented as the toughest rivals, due to their size. The Iiconics still do not like me. They are a team, and that’s fine, perhaps the most united team of all that will carry this match, but they do not have enough quality to show off the leash. Perhaps the most interesting is going to be how Beth Phenoix and Natalya interact with the champions, but I do not see The Glamazon working with WWE full-time; It seems to me that their appearance is rather sporadic.
Winner: Sasha Banks and Bayley
Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre
Another of the matches that should leave us with a good taste in our mouths, at least because of the show offered. Roman Reigns is out of all emotional charge, compared to the last years where he has been whistled and booed by the WWE Universe. Drew McIntyre has come strong, but only in terms of results. WrestleMania is Roman Reigns territory and I think that will give you an advantage. I would be very surprised if WWE decided to give the victory to Drew McIntyre, especially for the treatment he has received in recent months; He has won important matches in recent weeks, true, but before that, they left him without a fixed course. Honestly, I get the feeling that Vince McMahon does not believe in him. Also, losing to Roman Reigns on the show will not affect you greatly. Or if?
Winner: Roman Reigns
Falls Count Anywhere
I am one of those who believe in this match. WWE has hit the key and has given them the best possible stipulation. Thanks to this, it is quite likely that Shane McMahon -or The Miz …- delights us with one of the spots of the night. we must be attentive to the structure of the WrestleMania stage to anticipate a location where we will possibly see one of the moments of the night. The Miz also wins with all this. Despite sinking SAnitY in SmackDown Live, which most of us did not like, his character has undergone a small change that can bear fruit in the short term.
Winner: The Miz
No Holds Barred
I do not know why, but this reminds me a lot of Sting’s case. That is to say, Batista has returned to WWE, manifesting his desire to return to the ring. That puts him in a position of the loser, in my view. Do you really want this? Well, you’re going to lose. The stipulation benefits Triple H much more because it will be possible to use weapons of all kinds, and that entails the appearance of the hammer, an object with which it has won many battles. History has not had the strength that many expected. In SmackDown 1000, seeing the reaction that the public had with both, we thought that the chemistry would work, but in reality, the only thing we have seen is a cluster of gags that have been used to feed Twitter (Spice Girls, Bee Gees … ).
Winner: Triple H
Universal Championship Match
It seems that Brock Lesnar is going to renew his contract with WWE, although everything remains to be seen. That can tell us many things, among which his alleged victory at WrestleMania 35. There are some factors that make me think that The Beast will retain. The first, as I have said before, is the renovation. Several sources have confirmed that everything will be discussed during the weekend of WrestleMania, but I believe that its continuity is agreed, especially as a result of its last renewal before traveling to Saudi Arabia, when Roman Reigns announced its departure. I also see more feasible a rematch against Roman Reigns, than a match between Seth Rollins and The Big Dog. And remember, it will not be the main event of WrestleMania … if it were, WWE would be playing with fire by doing the same thing for two consecutive years. Further, WWE is going to focus on improving its SmackDown Live product, so keeping a champion every week on Raw is not going to be a priority. After making this reflection, I would be very surprised if Rollins left WrestleMania with the title, but this is WWE and everything is possible. Dean Ambrose intervening? I do not see it.
Winner: Brock Lesnar
WWE Championship Match
We need moments at WrestleMania and I think Kofi Kingston will have it. Contrary to what many people think, I think the story has worked and I have to agree with Vince McMahon. We have seen very strange things in the process, it is true, as Kofi Kingston beat a crowd of top superstars or New Day doing the same against most teams SmackDown (thank goodness that the use abstained), but the issue he has taken a titular opportunity that we did not imagine a few months ago. Kofi is not the Daniel Bryan of the “YES”, but he has managed to connect with a very large part of the audience, and that is important. I think he’s going to take the title, although it will not last long. Daniel Bryan is the most solid champion that SmackDown has had in recent years, It has given us better stories and still has the ability to do it, and even improve it. Kofi Kingston may be the champion of the day, but not the regular champion that WWE needs.
Winner: Kofi Kingston
Triple Threat – Winner Takes All
I’ve been about to decide on Ronda Rousey in this article, but as in the last previous I did not hit almost one – I’m honest, I’m sorry – I’m going to go easy. There is an accumulation of factors that make us doubt about the predictable victory of Becky Lynch, and it seems that everything is done, that the road to WrestleMania has been manufactured to build the fragrant new champion. Charlotte has the danger of having done the “ridiculous” in recent months, losing twice against a lame opponent, literally. A maneuver of dismissal? It is the least likely. And about Ronda Rousey, everything is based on the subject of the contract. If Ronda renews his contract he wins, I have it very clear. Dave Meltzer was ridiculed on social media for staying with only the information of the possible departure of the women’s champion of Raw, but now everyone is afraid that this may happen. However, if I do not renew I bet on Becky Lynch. The storyline has been terrible, but the match will save the situation. I am convinced that all three will give us, if not the best, one of the best women’s matches in WWE history.
Winner: Becky Lynch
