WWE does not rule out a Women’s Triple Threat at WrestleMania 35

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer has reported in the latest newsletter that it is very likely that one of the stellar events of WrestleMania 35 is a triple threat between Ronda Rousey, Charlotte Flair, and Becky Lynch. It’s a possibility that has been talked about in recent weeks, especially after Asuka won the SmackDown Women’s Championship at TLC. The idea is to face Ronda Rousey and Becky Lynch in a match where the Raw Women’s Championship will be defended, but Charlotte could be added to the equation shortly.

This is likely to happen if men do not star in the Wrestlemania main event. The original plans of WWE were that Roman Reigns was again the man who closed the show with an opponent that was still to be decided. There is talk that Dean Ambrose was the man chosen by WWE, and there was even a chance that the match for the Universal Championship was a triple threat between Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. However, this plan was truncated due to the departure of Roman Reigns for leukemia.

Another of the original plans of WWE was to face Natalya against Ronda Rousey with a long rivalry that would end in the great event. Although some media claimed that the women’s match was going to be a confrontation between Ronda Rousey and Charlotte, it seems that this was not WWE’s plan.

However, the march of Roman Reigns and the sudden growth of Becky Lynch has caused many options to be reconsidered. Another factor that discarded these plans was the death of Jim Neidhart, for which Vince McMahon opposed Natalya’s role as a heel.

As for the announcement of the match between Asuka and Becky Lynch at Royal Rumble 2019, it is said that WWE made the decision to cancel the match after the last SmackDown taping. The match was to be announced on SmackDown Live, but the plans changed and the WWE staff did not eliminate the announcement of the Main Event program where the match was made official.
