WWE RAW Review: September 2, 2019

We kicked this episode of RAW off with the contract signing between Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman which was hosted by Michael Cole. Strowman said that it will be awkward for Rollins when his tag team partner beats him for the Universal Championship but Seth just noted that he slew the Beast Brock Lesnar. And he added that that’s something Strowman never was able to do and that he’ll slay this time the Monster. After that, the Architect signed the contract. Suddenly the OC came out and AJ Styles complained why neither he has a chance on the Universal title nor his partners Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows on the Raw Tag Team titles which are held by Rollins and Strowman who will defend it at Clash Of Champions against the team of Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler.

The OC entered the ring, the Phenomenal One tore the contract up and then the Monster threw the table onto Styles and started to fire at Gallows and Anderson together with Rollins. After that, a match between the teams of Rollins and Strowman against Anderson and Gallows was made official.

After about 10 minutes the Beastslayer was able to roll up Anderson get the victory for his team but instantly got attacked by Styles after the successful pinfall. However, Rollins cleared up the ring and performed a Suicide Dive and so all Superstars were at ringside. Strowman made a Running Shoulder Block against Anderson and Gallows, but accidentally also hit Rollins and instantly regret that he also put his partner down. Suddenly Roode and Ziggler came out to attack to support the OC to destroy Rollins and Strowman. They delivered all their finishers and then posed while the current RAW Tag Team champions were lying on the floor.

Then we saw that Cedric Alexander was interviewed ahead of his match against Baron Corbin, but then the OC interfered the interview and bet him up. As you would expect, this would have an impact on his fight against the Lone Wolf in the quarterfinals of the King of the Ring tournament later that night.

Next up was the match Ziggler and Roode vs Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder. The match didn’t last five minutes and was finished after Ziggler performed a Superkick and Roode his Glorious DDT to Hawkins to pin him. This match’s only goal was to bring the team of Roode and Ziggler over for their title match. However, since Hawkins and Ryder got booked so bad in the last time, it’s no quite big victory for the challengers for the tag titles.

Next, Natalya faced Lacey Evans. After about five minutes, the Sassy Southern Belle threw her handkerchief at Natalya to distract her, followed by the Woman’s Right and then scored the pin.

Following this, Becky Lynch entered the ring to hold a promo in which she explained that Sasha Banks has been the star back then in NXT and then has been gifted one main event after another in the main roster. Also, she said that Banks would have had the talent to be the game-changer, but now Becky is the one. Besides, she reminded Banks how bad she has treated the Man when she has been nothing and the Boss one of the stars of the women’s division. Then Banks’ music hit, and she came out.

The Boss said that Lynch was right, that she was supposed to be main eventing WrestleMania. Banks also explained that the only reason why Lynch got those things is that Nia Jax has broken her face. The Man asked her for a fight, but Banks noted that she won’t do anything for free for these people. The Boss said that when she faces Lynch it will be for the Raw Women’s Championship at Clash of Champions and Lynch answered that all she had to do was ask for a title opportunity. Banks said The Man is going to be The Boss’s bitch at Clash of Champions and left the stage while her music was playing.

After that the quarterfinal of the King of the Ring tournament between Cedric Alexander and Baron Corbin took place and Alexander came out with both arms taped and he held his left arm to sell the already mentioned attack by the OC. The match was pretty intense and both men had several near falls and great chances to advance to the semi-finals. After about 14 minutes, Corbin hit his opponent with the End of Days and pinned Alexander for the win. A great match and the only reason for the attack by the OC likely was to let Alexander look not too bad.

Then a graphic of a tweet of Steve Austin was shown and Cole read it. Austin explained that he will be next week the host of the contract signing between Rollins and Strowman.

Charly Caruso interviewed SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley and asked her what she thinks about Sasha Banks’ return but didn’t really get a response. After that, she asked her about Banks explaining that the WWE Women’s Tag Title match at WrestleMania would have meant nothing to her. Bayley outlined that the Boss is her best friend and so they talked about it, but logically declined to share any details. Instead, she said Banks took her ball and went home, whereas she fought to be the Smackdown Women’s Champion. The next question was if she would be overshadowed by RAW Women’s champion Lynch. The Hugger said she wouldn’t let anything overshadow her and her title. “And by the end of the night, we’ll see who is standing in whose shadow,” Bayley ended the interview. Especially this last sentence was curious since it was already promoted that later that night Lynch and Bayley would team up to take on the Women’s Tag Team champions Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross.

Next, up the Viking Raiders bet some two guys called Brian Thomas and Tyler Casey in less than two minutes. Since before the match, Thomas and Casey tried to get some heat with certain statements it looks like WWE’s plan is to bring the Viking Raider over as faces. We’ll see in the next weeks what’s next for the tag team and how the WWW universe will react to it.

Sarah Schreiber asked Sasha in the backstage area if she was rooting for her best friend Bayley to win later in the show. “I see what you’re trying to do here,” Banks shouted at the interviewer. “Get the hell out of my face.”

Next up was the promising King of the Ring tournament quarterfinal between Ricochet and Samoa Joe. Unsurprisingly these two worked a great match. In the end, Ricochet went to the top rope while Joe was on the ground to perform a high-flying move. However, his opponent stood up, cut him off and applied the Coquina Clutch while both men were on the ropes. Ricochet pushed off the ropes with his legs and both men crashed to the mat. Both men had a hand laid over one another and the ref started to count.

The official went to ringside, took a headset to spoke to someone. He explained that from his point of view both men’s shoulders were down. The referee listened and then said that he would take that under advisement. Ricochet asked the referee for information, who told him the match was over and they would make a ruling. The two superstars fought on the entrance ramp, then returned to the ring where Ricochet performed the Recoil. The commentator Corey Graves noted that he would go backstage and look for answers.

Backstage, Strowman explained to Rollins that he wasn’t happy about the fact that Austin moderating their contract signing the following week. The Monster Among Men said he heard Austin praise Rollins in his Skype interview. However, Rollins said that he was all for Austin moderating the contract signing next week. The former member of the Wyatt Family said that if Austin got out of line he would “get these hands”.

Then a Firefly Funhouse video was hosted. Wyatt explained that he was sorry for what The Fiend did to Finn Balor. After that, the Vince McMahon devil puppet popped up and told Wyatt that he shouldn’t dare to challenge Rollins or Strowman. The puppet was about to fire him, but Wyatt calmed him down by holding up some cash in his hands in front of Vince’s face. Wyatt put one of the bills in the puppet’s mouth and then he passed out.

Wyatt noted that Seth and Strowman don’t work well together. He called both selfish and greedy. Besides, he explained that both of them took something very dear to him in a past life. Then Abby, Huskus, and the rabbit and buzzard puppets appeared next to Wyatt and he said that his team would help to him cope with the pain, but The Fiend helps him inflict it. “See you in hell,” Wyatt said while he smiled, then became more serious and said, “Let me in.” His face turned into the Fiend mask, then back to his normal face, who said goodbye in a very happy mood. Another great episode of the Firefly Fun House and it’s hopefully just a matter of time until Wyatt’s new gimmick gets a title shot.

Next up, Graves interviewed the referee of the match between Ricochet and Joe. However, Corbin joined them, and the official told him that he’ll face both superstars in a triple threat match in the semi-final of the King of the Ring tournament in next week’s episode of RAW.

Then an interview od Rey Mysterio was aired in which he explained, that after this emotional roller coaster ride over the last couple of weeks, his son Dominick convinced him to continue to step into the ring and pursue his passion.

After that, the Miz fought against Cesaro. However, since during the Miz’s entrance it was announced that he would face Shinsuke Nakamura for the Intercontinental Championship at Clash of Champions it was clear who would win the match. After about five minutes, the A-Lister performed a Skull Crushing Finale and took away the win to look strong ahead of his opportunity to win the IC Championship for the ninth time in his career.

Then the main event of this week’s RAW was scheduled. Bayley and Becky Lynch would take on the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross in a non-title match. It didn’t even take two minutes until Banks came out to match the fight from ringside. She watched the match from the bottom of the entrance ramp. After about ten minutes Banks entered the ring to hit Lynch from behind and then delivered a Backstabber for the no-contest finish. The Boss went to ringside, grabbed a chair and slammed it over the back of the RAW Women’s Champion. Bayley interrupted her and took the chair from Banks. The best friends looked at each other while the Man was down on the mat. Suddenly Bayley hit Lynch several times with the chair, the audience absolutely loved it and chanted “yes”.

This could probably be the turning point for Bayley since she never was able to tap her full potential in the main shows. This heel turn and the new Banks at her side could really give her a new push but we’ll have to wait for the next episodes of RAW and SmackDown as well for the upcoming PPV Clash of Champions. However, the “yes” chants clearly proofed that the WWE universe waited for this turn to happen.
