WWE Survivor Series Preview: November 24, 2019 by Felix Pichler
For the first time ever, we have also NXT as a part of Survivor Series. Due to that, this PPV promises to be absolutely outstanding. As always, the order of the matches probably changes and, but we’ll go through it one after another.
United States Champion AJ Styles vs. Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura vs. NXT North American Champion Roderick Strong
Even though it’s maybe at the first glance the match with the least prestige on this card since we have the midcard-champ of each show in this match but on the other side we have three of the best in-ring performers of the whole WWE. Nakamura’s booking is in the “main shows” just horrible compared to his time at NXT while Styles is still amazing and Strong is maybe one of the most underrated superstars of all three rosters. Considering that, we have Styles and Strong in one match just promises a lot and hopefully, Nakamura can get back on his old level in this match.
Opinion: We have three deciding factors in this match: the OC, Sami Zayn and the WarGames match just one night before Survivor Series in which Strong lost with the Undisputed Era. As in every other fight too, we could maybe see that the WarGames match influences Strong’s performance in this match while the other two superstars have at least one Superstar who has their back and surely gets involved.
RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch vs. SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley vs. NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler
This match received quite a lot of attention during the episodes of all three shows. Baszler just seemed to appear on every episode of RAW and SmackDown while Lynch opened the last NXT episode with a promo and a fight against Rhea Ripley. It’s almost impossible to predict a winner in this match since the Man and Baszler are by far the most dominant women on their show while Bayley just seems a bit displaced in this match.
Opinion: Everyone is just looking forward to the fight between Lynch and Baszler and exactly that could be the chance for WWE to give Bayley a massive push. The majority of the fans is over with Bayley’s heel turn, but it doesn’t seem as the WWE Universe would see her as a threat for Baszler or Lynch. Due to that, a win of Bayley would be a big surprise and a major push at the same time.
RAW Tag Team Champions “The Viking Raiders” Erik and Ivar vs. SmackDown Tag Team Champions “The New Day” Kofi Kingston and Big E vs. NXT Tag Team Champions “The Undisputed Era” Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly
We saw during the last episode of NXT the dream match between the Revival and the UE (Fish and O’Reilly) which was absolutely awesome. The New Day won the SmackDown Tag Team Championships just two weeks ago from the Revival. This made some fans upset since otherwise, we would have the Viking Raiders vs. the Revival vs. the Undisputed Era what would be amazing. However, Vince is probably a too great fan of the New Day to leave them out of this match and so, Big E and Kofi represent the blue brand in this fight.
Opinion: Even though the match would be a dream match, if the Revival would be a part of it, it still will be great since the New Day are also great performers. Big E and Kofi are already established as one of the greatest tag teams of our century while the UE is the dominant stable on NXT. Due to that, the Viking Raiders would need this win the most since they almost just have squash matches on RAW and they don’t get the booking which they deserve as champions.
Adam Cole (C.) vs. Pete Dunne for the NXT Championship
Dunne bet at NXT TakeOver: WarGames the night before Survivor Series Damien Priest and Killian Dain to earn himself that spot. Cole was in the WarGames match and had to sell a lot of hard moves. Especially as he and Ciampa went through two tables from the top of the cage at the end of their match. So, maybe they will add these matches to the storyline of this match.
Opinion: I can’t see Dunne picking up the win since it is obvious that Cole will have a feud with Ciampa for “Goldie”. Maybe we’ll see an interference from the other members of the UE.
Brock Lesnar (C.) (w/ Paul Heyman) vs. Rey Mysterio for the WWE Championship in a No Holds Barred Match
This match had an incredible long build-up. The moment that led us to the WWE Championship title match stemmed from a devastating attack by Brock Lesnar on Rey and his son. Then, Mysterio attacked Lesnar during his match with Cain Valasquez. Now Mysterio will get his chance to fight Lesnar for the title belt and he’ll try to take what means the most to the Beast: the WWE Championship.
Opinion: Honestly, it’s not often that we can say that, but Lesnar will likely lose this match. He and Bray Wyatt are both one SmackDown and they are the two titleholders. Wyatt won’t lose his title anytime soon and if he would lose it, it would still remain on the blue brand. So, they have to give the WWE Championship to RAW and Mysterio is part of that show, so a title change is the only logical consequence. However, it took Rollins several Curb Stomps to defeat the Beast and I can’t see Mysterio delivering four or even more 619. And that’s the reason why it is a No Holds Barred match since due to that Velasquez (or even Dominik) can help Mysterio to defeat the Beast while Lesnar has nobody who could help him since Heyman is nobody who actively interferes.
“The Fiend” Bray Wyatt (C.) vs. Daniel Bryan for the Universal Championship
This match has the unique aspect that we already know the winner, but still, everyone is looking forward to this match. It’s clear that Wyatt will defend his title since it is his first match as a champion and additionally, he’s at the moment besides Lesnar the most dominant superstar in all of WWE. However, Bryan is known for making every single match of his something special and it will be interesting to see how this match goes. Will the Fiend destroy Bryan after a very short time, or will Bryan be able to bring the fight to the champ?
Opinion: I’m pretty sure that this match will live more from its storytelling than the actual wrestling in the match. The Fiend doesn’t show many different moves. It either (no-)sells the moves from the opponent or performs its three to five moves. Due to that, I’m sure that they will work in some way with Bryan’s run with the Wyatt Family and the aspect which they brought up last week on SmackDown that both men would be mental instable.
Women’s Traditional Survivor Series Match: Team SmackDown (Sasha Banks, Lacey Evans, Carmella, Dana Brooke & Nikki Cross) vs. Team RAW (Charlotte Flair, Natalya, Asuka, Kairi Sane & Sarah Logan) vs. Team NXT (Rhea Ripley, Candice LeRae, Bianca Belair, Io Shirai & Toni Storm)
This match will be a huge chaos at the beginning since we have 15 women in one match. It will be interesting to watch how fast the women will get eliminated until we have just the biggest names of the respective brands in the match. We’ll likely see the captains Banks, Flair and Ripley in the final stages of the match who will fight for the win for their brand. However, it’s great to see Storm in this fight and it will be interesting to see how many and which spots she’ll get.
Opinion: I can’t see performers like Logan, Brooke or Carmella surviving that long in this match since they almost got no TV time within the last time and due to that they look really weak. Anyways, I really hope that this match will tell a good story, and, in my opinion, NXT must go over since they clearly have the best women’s division of all three brands. However, four out of the five women on NXT’s squad were the day before in the WarGames match, so let’s see how this will influence that match.
Men’s Traditional Survivor Series Match: Team SmackDown (King Corbin, Roman Reigns, Braun Strowman, Mustafa Ali & Shorty G) vs. Team RAW (Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, Kevin Owens, Ricochet & Drew McIntyre) vs. Team NXT (Tommaso Ciampa and four other men who will be announced by Shawn Michaels during the kick-off show)
So, KO was in the WarGames match part of Ciampa’s team and now he has to fight against Ciampa and maybe also Dijakovic and Lee. I’m sure that this will be part of the storyline in this match and maybe we’ll see how Owens moves to NXT. Anyways, Michaels will announce Ciampa’s partners during the kick-off show.
On the other side, we have on every team outstanding athletes and due to that I just hope that this match will have a good storyline. Shorty G and Mustafa Ali won’t survive that long in this match and this will give Reigns once more the big spotlight. The storyline between Orton and Ricochet will also be included in this match and we’ll surely see at least one RKO in this match, either against an opponent or Ricochet
Opinion: It will be interesting to watch since it is the first time that NXT joins RAW and SmackDown in this match. However, we had yesterday eight men in the WarGames match. Ciampa is officially part of team NXT, all members of the UE are part of other matches and so there are left Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic. Besides them, we still have big names like Finn Balor, Matt Riddle, Killian Dain or even Walter who could be part of team NXT. We’ll find out during the kick-off show.
Summary
This promises to be one of the best PPVs of this year since we have so many interesting matches. We’ll see three matches for the main titles which are all three really promising, the triple threat matches between the respective mid-card champions, the tag team champs and the women’s champions. And on top of that, we’ll see the Survivor Series matches for men and women.
Opinion: I really can’t see why this PPV shouldn’t be an absolute stunner. NXT TakeOver: WarGames was incredible last night, so it will be interesting to watch how this show will be in comparison.
