WWE NXT Review: August 28, 2019

This episode of NXT kicked off with the match between Io Shirai and Cami Fields. Shirai is currently in a feud with Candice LeRae and was the clear favourite in this match. She dominated the fight and delivered a perfect Moonsault and pinned her opponent. However, the Japanese broke up the pinfall to inflict more punishment to Fields and made her tap out to the Harajuku Clutch.

The match didn’t even take two minutes but Sharai wasn’t done yet. She grabbed a kendo stick from underneath the ring to punish her already defeated opponent. Suddenly, LaRae came out, took the kendo stick and started to hit Shirai with the weapon several times but the Japanese was able to get out of the ring.

Next, a fight between Keith Lee and Dominik Dijakovic was scheduled. This match promised to be an incredible fight since both superstars are versatile and already worked together in the past. And it held on its promises since it took over ten minutes and included some astonishing moves like a Super Spanish Fly from the top rope by Lee what’s an amazing move for these two big men. Although, Dijakovic was able to get away with the victory after he made his finisher called Feast Your Eyes.

This match had the level of an NXT Takeover match and both men showed that they are able to work great matches if needed. It’s questionable what’s next for them since it looked like their feud is over.

After that match, a video which showed the highlights of Jonny Gargano’s career was aired but suddenly Shane Thorne stood behind the commentators and complained why he doesn’t get his own video. It’s probably the kick-off of a feud between these two since Gargano’s one with NXT Champion Adam Cole ended at the last NXT Takeover in Toronto.

Next, up Shayna Baszler, Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir came into the ring to hold a promo. Just when Baszler wanted to begin to talk to the audience Rhea Ripley’s music started and she made her entrance. She’s currently part of the NXT UK roster and so nobody expected her to interrupt the Horsewomen.

However, she walked down the stage, entered the ring and whipped the mic out of Baszler’s hand. Ripley kept it short and just said that she would know what the NXT Women’s Champion wants to say. “You going to say that you have beaten everyone,” she continued. “But you haven’t beaten me, bitch!” The whole crowd went crazy after this statement and the Horsewomen left the ring while Ripley stood tall in the ring with her theme playing. She could be the one who breaks up the current domination of Baszler.

The highlight of this week’s episode of NXT was the clash between the Street Profits and the Undisputed Era for the NXT Tag Team Championship. The team of Angelo Dawkins and Kenneth Crawford who are better known as the Street Profits weren’t able yet to outstanding performances in the ring. The won the gold in a four-way tag team ladder match at NXT Takeover: XXV against Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch, the Forgotten Sons, and the Undisputed Era. Since then they defended the title just one time against Lorcan and Burch.

Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly represented the Undisputed Era and were able to win the NXT Tag Team Championship for the second time after an eventful fight. As always Fish and O’Reilly showed great performances, but the Street Profits also worked great this time. Since Adam Cole is currently the NXT Champion and it would be a big surprise if he will lose it next week against Jordan Myles, now three of the four members of the stable have gold around their waist.

Only Roderick Strong is currently no champ and so he may challenge the current NXT North American Champion Velveteen Dream within the next weeks. If he will be able to secure a win, the Undisputed Era would have all possible championships of NXT except the NXT Women’s Championship.

Another unresolved question is what’s next for the Street Profits. They appeared during the last couple of weeks on RAW and SmackDown Live but not in matches yet. Dawkins and Crawford just hang around in the backstage area and talked about the according events of the shows. In light of this, they may be from next week on part of the main roster.
