WWE SmackDown Live Review: August 27, 2019

At the beginning of the SmackDown Live episode of the 27 August, the WWE Champion Kofi Kingston came out to talk to the WWE Universe. He shared his thoughts with the fans about the attacks of Randy Orton during the last weeks until the Viper interrupted him and showed up on the Titantron shouting “stupid” several times in a row. After that, he said that he received a letter which he wants to share. In the end, it turns out that the letter is from Kofi’s son and he tells Orton that he should stop being mean to the WWE Champion and that he shouldn’t call him stupid all the time.

After that, Orton explains that he’s staying in the same hotel as Kofi’s family, and so he will visit his son. Logically, Kofi storms backstage and they start a brawl which ends with a DDT from a table from the Viper to the WWE Champion.

Afterwards, a clash of the first round of the King of the Ring tournament between Ali and Buddy Murphy took place. Since Murphy was last week able to pick up a win against Daniel Bryan even though he was the underdog he was somehow the favourite ahead of this fight. These two superstars showed and incredible match and earned “This is awesome” chants from the crowd. In the end, Ali delivered a 450 and was able to secure the three count. Considering this he advances to the next round of the King of the Ring tournament and will face Elias in the quarterfinals. After the match, they shook their hands and showed their respect for each other.

Next, it was announced that the Miz would take on Sami Zayn who revealed an alliance with Shinsuke Nakamura during the last episode of SmackDown and after that, they attacked together Miz on Miz TV. Ahead of the match between the A-Lister and Zayn, the Miz entered the ring and challenged Nakamura to a match for the Intercontinental Championship at the next PPV Clash of Champions.

Zayn came out but instead of having the match, he called the Miz the “king of soft style” and lured him out of the ring so the IC Champion could attack him from behind. He delivered a Kinshasa outside the ring and then another one in the ring. However, after the attack, Nakamura didn’t accept the challenge of the Miz.

Next up SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley took on Lacey Evans and as you would expect, after some minutes Charlotte came out and watched the match from ringside. Bayley landed a Bayley-to-Belly but her opponent was able to reach the bottom rope to break up the pin. She delivered another Bayley-to-Belly followed by a beautiful Elbow Drop to win the fight and the Queen applauded her ahead of their clash for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at Clash of Champions.

In the next sequence, we saw Daniel Bryan and Erick Rowan gave an interview in which they explained that they won’t leave the arena until they hear the three words “I am sorry” from Roman Reigns. At this moment it was clear that there will happen something about this feud during this episode of SmackDown.

The next match was between Orton and Big E who wanted to take revenge for what The Apex Predator together with the Revival did during the last weeks to his brothers Kofi and Xavier Woods. Due to a cheap shot by the Revival, while the ref was distracted, Orton was able to deliver an RKO and win the match. After the match Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson once more helped Orton to land an assisted RKO.

Afterwards, Elias came out, sat on the throne, crowned himself and talked to the crowd. Suddenly, Kevin Owens attacked him from behind and dragged him to the ring where KO delivered a Stunner. This was probably a little revenge since Elias knocked Owens out of the King of the Ring tournament last week. After the attack, Elias stayed laying down while KO left the stage. Moments later R-Truth tried to capitalise on Elias being down to win back the 24/7 Championship. However, Drake Maverick appears, takes Truth out and pins Elias himself to become the new champ!

The next match was another fight of the first round of the King of the Ring tournament. This time Chad Gable faced Shelton Benjamin. Both superstars hadn’t got too many fights during the last couple of weeks and months and so there was no real favourite ahead of this match. However, Gable was able to win the match due to a roll-up and will face Andrade in the quarterfinals of the tournament.

This episode of SmackDown closed with a segment about the feud between Reigns and Bryan and Rowan. The Big Dog headed to the ring and grabbed a mic. As we heard in the interview earlier that night Bryan and Rowan expected an apology. Although, Reigns showed footage which showed that Rowan was the one behind the forklift incident. After that, Bryan slapped Rowan several times in the face and told him to shut up and get away from him. Then Bryan headed to the ring with a mic in his hand and told Reigns on his way that he trusted Rowan and that someone else must told Rowan to do that. Just when Bryan entered the ring, the Big Dog made a massive Spear to silence him and that’s how the show ended.

And at the end of this episode, we have more new questions than answers and this feud between Bryan and Reigns will continue and will maybe lead to a fight at Clash of Champions.
